Do or Do not. There is no Try!

I believe I have just paraphrased Yoda there. But the little green fella had a point whether you are Star Wars fan or not.

There is no such thing as TRY! Ban the word form your vocabulary immediately! You see, “try” suggests failure. If I say “I tried to open the door”. You would assume that I did not manage it! Otherwise I would have said “I opened the door”, right?

So, either you are going to do something or you are not, if you say you are going to try, you are already presupposing – therefore setting yourself up for – failure…

However, this has a very cunning use in subtle commands to other people. If you don’t want someone to do something say “try and do…” it is a hypnotic command for them to fail!!

Just so you know that someone (who isn’t trying to sell something) is reading this.

Fantastic tip, I’m going to stop telling my son to ‘try’ to keep his homework organised!
